Description
Impulse Records! commemorated the 50th anniversary of John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme with the release of a complete masters edition, including unreleased session reels and alternative versions from Coltrane’s personal collection.
Originally released in 1965, A Love Supreme changed music history, cementing the saxophonist’s reputation as one of the most ground-breaking musicians in music, and was subsequently ranked No. 47 in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time.
This edition finally collects all the previously unavailable outtakes, overdubs, and studio chatter from the sessions of the 9th & 10th December 1964, including additional takes involving saxophonist Archie Shepp and bassist Art Davis. Only two of these takes have been released previously and here they figure alongside two previously unreleased mono reference tracks from Coltrane’s own collection and seven additional unreleased takes from both sessions, including all six takes of ‘Acknowledgment’. Also includes extensive booklet notes by acclaimed jazz writer Ashley Kahn.
Out of print 2-CD edition from 2015. New & sealed digipak.
